I am So Excited about what God is doing in Northwest Indiana. This past Sunday, we saw people surrender their lives to Jesus including the custodian Amy who was just there to unlock the doors and hold down the fort. God had other plans!  That NEVER gets old. This was our 4th service since launch & we are averaging 350 persons. NUMBERS DO MATTER BECAUSE EVERY NUMBER HAS A NAME; EVERY NAME HAS A STORY; AND EVERY STORY MATTERS TO GOD! He even wrote a book called NUMBERS!

We are in the middle of a series called “PERVERTED” & this past Sunday I spoke about our words, and how they effect us in life. They can add value or take away & rob us of our destiny. We live in a culture where we have been taught that we have Freedom of Speech! This has worked for our advantage but also for our disadvantage. While being able to say anything
you want, anytime you want, to whomever you want may sound like a good thing; God warns us that we will be responsible for EVERY WORD we have ever said…EVERY word we say
is being recorded.

Look at. Matthew 12:36,37 But I tell you; on the day of judgement men will
have to give account for every idle word they speak. For by your words you
will be justified and aquitted and by your words you will be condemned and

So what can our freedom of speech do? How does it hurt us and others?
Words hurt when they are Lies – John 8:44  Satan is THE father of LIES.
If you find yourself lieing or telling half/truths; Satan is the source of those
lies. You are only as strong as you are honest.

Words hurt when they cause division; sow strife -Proverbs 6:12-15 A worthless person
walks with a PERVERSE mouth; he winks with his eye, he shuffles his feet,
he points with his fingers; PERVERSITY in his heart, he devises evil, he
sows discord. Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; suddenly he
shall be broken without remedy. There was a study done recently
for couples that were going to get divorced. Many of the couples going
through counseling were able to work through their problems and there
marriages were restored but the ones who followed through with the
divorce had recorded 10 out of every 100 statements were direct
put-downs. Divisive, cutting statements. If you are married, you are 1 flesh. When you
speak negatively to your spouse you are hurting yourself. Stop iT!

Words hurt when they are Dishing the Dirt  – Morgan Blank, a sportswriter for the Atlanta Journal
newspaper during the first world war wrote: I am more deadly than the
screaming shell from the howitzer. I win without killing. I tear down
homes, break hearts, and wreck lives. I travel on the wings of the wind.
No innocence is strong enough to intimidate me, no purity enough to daunt
me. I have no regard for truth, no respect for justice, no mercy for the
defenseless. My victims are as numerous as the sands of the sea, and
often innocent. I never forget and I seldom forgive. My name is Gossip.

Words hurt us when we Use God’s name in Vain
Exodus 20:7 You shall not take the name of the Lord in vain, for the LORD
will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. The first way is
obviously using His name as a curse word. But, the 2nd way is also a
serious offense and that is to use his name in a self-serving way. That’s
what the word Vain means. When you tell someone God told me for selfish
reasons; you are on thin ice. When you are trying to convince someone of
something or justify your decisions by saying God told me; you better
make sure he did. Look at Ezekial 13:7,22,28 – Woe to the ones who say
thus says the Lord. God told me might just be the most abused phrase in church circles..
I believe he speaks and I believe he directs but I do think many people are
saying God told me to do this and when that doesn’t work out; oh,
God told me to do that. He’s not flighty. So be as cautious of using
his name in that way as you would using his name as a curse word.

Words can hurt when they are FILTHY! Potty language is unacceptable!
Ephesians 5:4 – Let there be no filthiness (obscenity, indecency) or
foolish and sinful (silly & corrupt) talk, or coarse jesting, which are
not fitting or becoming but instead voice your thankfulness to GOD. It
goes on to say that these things have no inheritance in the Kingdom of
God. THIS is a BIG deal & we are being led to believe that we can say
whatever we want with no consequence. That is just NOT true!

Mark Twain said “the difference between the right word and the almost
right word is the difference between lightning and a lightening bug”.

The human tongue is the strongest muscle in the body. But, the power of
the human tongue doesn’t lie in the strength of the muscle but the real
force lies in its ability to produce words. Proverbs 18:21 says that
DEATH and LIFE are in the Power of the tongue, and those who love it will
eat it’s fruit. WOW!

Our tongues have the POWER of death and LIFE. You are creating every day
with your words! That is why it is so important that we learn to control
what we Say! And yes. Although death is in the power of the tongue so is

Our words connect us to God. Through Singing, Praising, Thanksgiving, &
Confession we draw close to God and this is why there is such a battle.
Satan wants to pervert truth and cause us to think that our words don’t
matter. But, when we are wreckless with our words it hurts people, it
separates us from God, and it causes shames & confusion. We can say
something and then quickly say well, I didn’t mean that; .but that isn’t
true. We really DO mean what we say because the bible says that out of the
abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. What’s inside comes out and what
we say reveals what’s on the inside. What are your words and the things
you are saying revealing about you?

Psalm 103:3 says that He forgives every one of our iniquities and if we
will CONFESS our sin and repent of all of the stupid things we have
said; he will choose to forget those wreckless statements. 1 John 1:9
says that if we freely admit that we have sinned and if we confess it,
he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from
all unrighteousness.

Ask God today to guard your hearts & your mouths that you could honor him in every way!
